When Vikramaditya (विक्रमादित्य) strolling across the jungles of the lost city of Ayodhya, which once stood in glory but lost it overtime, found tirthraja Prayag there.
Asking for the reason as to why he was there, he came to know that Prayag, washing the sins since generations now wished to let it away in this pious land.
Lost in time, the city of Ayodhya needed revival. For which Prayag directed Vikramaditya to find a cow and calf and let them wander. The place where the cow gives milk itself will be the actual position of Ayodhya Janmabhumi .
Mentioned by many historians and folk tales Vikram constructed many Temples along with the main temple of Ayodhya destroyed by Babur in 1528.
Though there are variations as to which Vikramaditya actually discovered Ayodhya (there are numerous of kings who assumed the title), the two top contenders are Skandagupta and the OG Chandragupta Vikramaditya of Ujjain with the later being more authentic (being the older).
The reason for this being the mentions of Ayodhya as Saket in Kalidas' Raghuvamsam .
Whoever he be, that being matter of another research, it shows the fact of how many cities we lost in the walk of time.
The incident of transfer of Srinath Ji from UP to Rajasthan in not a unknown fact to the devotees.
There still are many lost Murtis, some down under the earth some in a well, waiting for the hands of the children of their devotees to come seek their blessings.
Some lost in the garb of time and some due to the atrocities of some "guests."
