एकश्लोकी-रामायण. :: The Ramayana of One Shloka (Ekshloki)

 एकश्लोकी-रामायण.

आदौ राम-तपोवनादि-गमनं, हत्वा मृगं काञ्चनं

वैदेही-हरणं, जटायु-मरणं, सुग्रीव-सम्भाषणम्।

वाली-निर्दलनं, समुद्र-तरणं, लङ्कापुरी-दाहनं

पश्चाद् रावण-कुम्भकर्ण-हननम्, एतद्धि रामायणम्॥



At first (आदौ) there was Rāma (राम-) going (-गमनं) to the penance-grove etc. (तपोवन-आदि-).

His having killed (हत्वा) the golden (काञ्चनं) deer (मृगं), Sītā's (वैदेही-) kidnapping (-हरणं) happened .

Then came] Jaṭāyu's (जटायु-) death (-मरणं) [followed by] conversation (-सम्भाषणं) with Sugrīva (सुग्रीव-).

Vālin's (वाली-) decimation (-निर्दलनं), the crossing (-तरणं) of the Ocean (समुद्र-) [and then] the burning (-दाहनं) of the city of Laṅkā (लङ्का-पुरी-).

Then (पश्चात्) was the killing (-हननं) of Rāvaṇa and Kumbhakarṇa (रावण-कुम्भकर्ण-) - this (एतत्) indeed (हि) is the Rāmāyaṇa (रामायणम्).
